Supply Chain Management

Supply chain management has crossed over from being a narrow management function to being a key differentiating function. Success now hinges on a different set of criteria, where each company is racing to get the right product to the right place at the right time – and at the right cost.

At Sanmina-SCI, our goal is to align your business objectives with the best supply chain strategy in the EMS industry. Our supply chain management programs are focused on implementing strategic drivers, business tools and processes to improve the overall effectiveness and efficiency of designing, manufacturing and delivering your electronics products.

Your supply chain as a strategic advantage

Sanmina-SCI can design your supply chain to mitigate the effects of market availability and seasonality. We specialize in mass customization and can build and configure your product to order, plus provide global delivery.

Supplier Relationship. Sanmina-SCI sits in the middle of one of the most comprehensive supply chain networks in the world. Shorter product cycles, higher inventory turns, faster time-to-market requirements and supply chain speed and agility are just a few of the challenges that make up an ultra-competitive global economy.

Below is an illustration of our integrated supply chain model, which includes our suppliers who contribute to delivering optimal supply chain solutions to you!

At Sanmina-SCI, we’ve built one of the most effective supply chain models in the industry. A process-oriented approach to supply chain management is necessary for best-in-class performance. Sanmina-SCI believes that the identification of key performance indicators and our ongoing measurement is fundamental to performance improvement. Through our performance management processes, Sanmina-SCI provides suppliers ongoing feedback relative to these indicators and works with them to continuously improve performance.

We’re committed to ensuring that our suppliers have a clear understanding of our expectations and goals so you get the right price at the right time. Speed. Efficiency. Relationships. Expertise. Economies of scale. That’s the Sanmina-SCI advantage.

Supply Chain Social Responsibility. Sanmina-SCI has jointly developed and adopted the Electronic Industry Code of Conduct, which is related to socially responsible supply chain practices. The Code outlines standards to ensure that working conditions in the electronics industry supply chain are safe, that workers are treated with respect and dignity, and that manufacturing processes are environmentally responsible. Fundamental to adopting the Code is the understanding that a business, in all its activities, must operate in full compliance with the laws, rules and regulations of the countries in which it operates. The Code encourages participants to go beyond legal compliance, drawing upon internationally recognized standards, in order to advance social and environmental responsibility.

Supplier Diversity. Sanmina-SCI has an active supplier diversity program and works to develop WMDVBE suppliers across a range of purchased commodities. We are a sponsor of several local chapters of the key diversity organizations, such as the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) and the Women’s Business Enterprise Council (WBEC).

Sanmina-SCI has taken these steps to synchronize diversity supplier activities with our corporate social responsibility effort, and the positive returns are evident in our relations with the supply base and in developing customers in various industries. This mission underscores our long-standing commitment to being a leader in supplier diversity and to be a model corporate citizen in the communities we serve.

C-TPAT. Sanmina-SCI is committed to proactively ensuring our supply chain is safe and secure to support the interests of National Security, our organization and our customers through infrastructure, policies, procedures, training and operational partnerships. Sanmina-SCI received C-TPAT (Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) certification in September 2004 from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). C-TPAT is a joint government-business initiative designed to strengthen supply chain and border security and to ensure the continued free flow of international trade.

RoHS/WEEE. As one of the world’s premier electronics manufacturing services providers, we are committed to protecting the environment and controlling the use of resources and hazardous materials in the manufacture of our products. Over the past several years, Sanmina-SCI has invested significant financial resources and human capital to improve and develop new manufacturing processes to meet legislative and customer environmental requirements in the most cost-effective manner and with the fastest time-to-market. Our policy is to comply with all environmental laws applicable to our products and operations.

Our commitment to environmental stewardship is consistent with our focus on quality and customer satisfaction. In particular, we strive to help our customers meet their obligations under:

  • The Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (the RoHS Directive) enacted on January 23, 2003, by the European Union and slated to become effective on July 1, 2006.
  • Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) enacted on Jan. 27, 2003, as outlined in Directive 2002/96/EC.

Sanmina-SCI requires that our entire supply chain apply the same focus, diligence and commitment to both legislative and customer environmental requirements. As you are fully aware, the marketplace that we participate in is extremely competitive. Customers will have little tolerance for missed product commitments due to RoHS readiness. As a result, we are committed to being “RoHS ready” for all of our customers. To that end, Sanmina-SCI suppliers can expect to participate in questionnaires related to RoHS readiness, complete “Supplier Certification of Compliance Commitments” (“Certification”) and complete “Certificates of Compliance” (also known as “Material Declarations”) for components and assemblies delivered to Sanmina-SCI.

SMI. The Sanmina-SCI Supply Managed Inventory (SMI) Program is focused on high-spend items. In June 2004, we deployed the SMI system capability for Oracle®, improving business communications and operational efficiency around the world.

EDI. Sanmina-SCI employs Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) transactions to increase the data accuracy in communications with suppliers to improve forecasts and facilitate sourcing execution. Currently, our EDI order/forecast capabilities are assisting more than 100 suppliers around the world.

Sanmina-SCI Codes of Conduct and Policies. Sanmina-SCI suppliers make significant contributions to our success. The supply chain management organization strives to create an environment where our suppliers have an incentive to work with the Company and to be confident that they will be treated lawfully, fairly and in an ethical manner. To this end, the organization operates under related key Corporate guidelines and policies.

Supplier Management. Supply chain solutions. Velocity. Agility. Speed. Trust. More and more companies are looking at their supply chain in a bold new way. And in order to be strategic and tactical, they're looking to Sanmina-SCI.
